Organs – a GIFT by choice, or a DUTY?

Organ donation - should it be a 'voluntary gift' or an 'obligation/duty', is the big question of this hour.

I still recall, how my friend Samuel's (Flash Organisation Ltd.) wife died due to chronic kidney disorder, when they could not find a donor on time.

Millions of people across the globe die every now and then due to lack of organs for transplantation; the reason is unavailability of WILLING donors.

The 'presumed consent' system for organ donation has become a matter of public debate in Wales (United Kingdom).

As per the government proposition - people that do not 'opt-out' in the organ-donation register will be ASSUMED to have agreed to the law, and will AUTOMATICALLY become a donor after their death.

It was a hot debate session at St. John the Baptist Church (Central Cardiff), where the Archbishop of Wales, Dr. Barry Morgan said, he wanted the statute law to be tossed out, and asked people to think of their moral responsibilities and ethical duties.

People agreed to him that 'organs' should not be an obligation/duty under the law, but a GIFT by their own choice.

The organ-donor register has less entries of people; this is the reason (we hear) why the government wants to go strong with the law, so that organs of deceased could be automatically used when the person has not raised an objection in the organ-donor register, by OPTING OUT.

Well, what do you think of GIFTING your organs to someone in need after your death?
